Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities:Grell has all the powers and abilities associated with Shinigami in his canon universe. They don't age, and the only way to kill a shinigami is with a death scythe. The death scythes cut the soul away from the body at death and, in Grell's canon, are the only weapon that can kill a shinigami.

Grell has stamina, durability/constitution, and speed and agility that are much greater than a human of his same age and physical fitness level. In his canon, he's even considered to be strong and skilled even by the standards of his race. He can feel pain and responds to injury the way a human would, but he heals almost instantaneously and injury does not seem to affect his energy levels or ability to respond in any way for the brief time he has them.

Grell's death scythe is in the form of a chainsaw and has all the destructive power such an item would normally have. However, it also has the power to reveal a person's "Cinematic Record " when wielded, giving him access to all the memories that person has obtained throughout their life.
It also cuts the soul from the body, sending a person's soul into the afterlife.

There are other items that allow shinigami to alter that record, but Grell is not in possession of those items, nor would he be allowed to be.

Grell is also able to tell humans from non-humans, sense magic, and sense when people have magical/supernatural abilities. Hearts and stars and other symbols seems to appear around him in response to his rather flamboyant emotions.

He also possesses the ability to conceal his large chainsaw death scythe about his person with absolute discretion. It's impossible to tell where he pulls it from when he decides to wield it.

He can sing well if motivated to do so. And, if he so chooses, he can sometimes alter his physical appearances for a disguise.
Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them?N/A
Weapons:All shinigami carry death scythes. The scythes can take the form of any cutting tool from a knife to a chainsaw to a lawnmower. Grell’s is an enormous red chainsaw. The death scythe separates the soul from the body, killing any living being instantly and without apparent injury. Of course, the scythes will also function as whatever item they take. They work on all living beings, even on beings deemed immortal. The only thing that can cut a death scythe is another death scythe.
When a soul is reaped with a scythe, it gives the reaper access to that person’s “cinematic record”; the record of life and memories imprinted on a person’s soul. These are reviewed at the time of death by the shinigami and the person’s fate in the afterlife is determined. In extreme cases, namely where the person’s life will have a major positive impact on the entire world they live in, the shinigami can save a person from death. However, they always err on the side of caution and this almost never happens. (Note: There are tools that allow them to rewrite lives and change history and alter the future, but Grell does not have access to those items. He would, however, know about them.)
Most death scythes are very large, but can be stored about a shinigami’s person. The can simply ‘wield’ them when they need them, and then they don’t seem to exist the rest of the time. They just seem to pull them out of thin air.
A null or a void would definitely prevent Grell from wielding his scythe. If it were already in hand, it would be rendered the same as a plain large chainsaw, as Grell would not be able to use its power.

History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History:Grell Stucliff became a shinigami in the late 1700s. As a young shinigami, Grell was known for his vicious temper, unpredictable personality, and brutal violence. However, he was also known for his technical skill at collecting human souls and working with the cinematic records, the recording of a person’s life that plays out upon their death. This is dangerous work, and his gifts at handling it forces the shinigami HR to deal with him. On purely technical achievement, he holds one of the few AAA scores on record at Dispatch where he was trained and works. However, in spite of his impressive talent, his mental instability, emotional outbursts and brutality kept him from any kind of promotion. He stayed a rather low-level reaper. His original partner, the young shinigami who took the original exams with him, is William T. Spears. William is now a supervisor at dispatch. This doesn’t seem to bother Grell, who’s short attention span causes him to despise office work and paperwork, which he is almost always behind on.

As a young shinigami, Grell’s feminine affectations, while there, were dramatically less. It wasn’t until he got into a fight with William that he realized that he enjoyed being dominated. When he realized he enjoyed being beaten, he adopted more and more exaggerated feminine affectations to go with this new found desire.

Grell appears to have mellowed somewhat through the years. While still unstable and violent, his more flamboyant and effeminate personality seems to have been cultivated over time. After the incident with "Madame Red" (Where he willingly became an accomplice and participant in the “Jack the Ripper” murders) he appears to have been professionally reprimanded and even demoted multiple times. William replaced his chainsaw scythe with scissors, something Grell greatly lamented. However, his originally modified scythe has been recovered.

Point in Canon: Grell’s canon point is immediately after his first fight with Sebastian in season 1. He’s just been rescued by William and dragged off by the hair for punishment after almost getting himself killed and breaking several rules.

Conditional: Brief summary of previous RP history:N/A

Character Personality: First and foremost, Grell is insane. His default personality is amiable, cheerful and flirtatious. However, he scrolls through emotions rapidly, and is quick to intense and frightening fits of rage, violence, lust, sorrow, and affection. Always fancying himself an actor, emotions to him are more like an opportunity to make a dramatic spectacle of himself, rather than something he actually feels. Therefore, his over-reacting is legendary. He genuinely enjoys throwing tantrums, making scenes, and generally using his emotional outbursts to make himself the center of attention.

Grell is quick to declare his love for anyone he deems worthy. Masochistic in nature, abuse and physical violence from the targets of his intense passion usually just encourages him. It's frequently unclear in his fits of passion if he is truly proclaiming affection or merely wants to antagonize, even to Grell himself. He likes to act as though his feelings are returned. Part of this is because he is a masochist, and he does genuinely get off being fought off and generally abused. The other part is because acting as though the fight is a love affair, Grell encourages further attention and abuse. Sexually, Grell can be ironically naive for all of his talk. When offered a night with Sebastian to do anything with him he wants, Grell imagines only the two of them kissing. Even a request for “a little bit of tongue” comes later. Grell’s romantic attentions seem to be for either enemies, or men who are emotionally unavailable to him. In a way, Grell seems to prefer to chase to actual romance, and can be assumed to be romantically and sexually inexperienced in spite of the way he carries on.

Grell feeds on attention, and will stop at nothing to get it. To him, attention is good no matter how negative a form it takes. In fact, he seems to prefer provoking negative reactions and even physical attacks from the people around him to any other form of interaction. He dearly loves to frighten people and make them uncomfortable. He's also capable of and even revels in gruesome acts of violence. He dearly loves all things red, especially blood.

Grell likes children, but they also make him uncomfortable. One reason for this could be because, as his job is a reaper in a time period when infant mortality and child deaths were common, the task of reaping children would be a common one. This discomfort combined with his short temper and tendency toward wild outbursts make him particularly bad with them.

Most of the targets for his wild romantic attentions are men, but he's flexible in the matter and can harbor romantic and sexual feelings for women. This, however, is rare. Most women he treats with jealousy and disdain. When he does, it’s usually because he’s enjoying playing out some drama he’s concocted, and the woman is a part of the drama and has less to do with her personally.

Loyalty isn't something Grell is overly concerned with. He'll look out for number one. However, he is very vain, and is susceptible to flattery and tokens of affection, no matter how minor or insincere. In fact, even the smallest sign of approval seems to delight him. He seems to have no real qualms with letting himself be manipulated quite readily. Once motivated, Grell can be easily be made into a powerful, but ultimately unreliable ally.

Grell is not as insane as he appears, however, and he can be quite cunning and intelligent when he wants to be. He just doesn’t want to be. Generally, he’s not so mentally broken that he cannot function; he’s just broken enough so that he doesn’t care if he functions or not, and frequently doesn’t want to. He’s a bit like the child who drops the plate and breaks it so he doesn’t have to do the dishes anymore. It is known that much of his insane persona is an act, it’s just never quite clear how much of his wild, mad persona is real insanity, and how much of it is acted for the benefit, or rather determent, of those around him. Notoriously self-absorbed, he can often be brutal or cruel even when he doesn’t intend to be.
Grell is a very powerful individual. It is well established in canon that Grell is very formidable, even by the standards of his rather powerful race. And, since Shinigami are well-matched with demons and angels, it’s safe to assume that Grell does not meet creatures stronger than him very often. Ironically, when this does happen, Grell is often shown to be something of a coward when he realizes he might actually be defeated or killed.

It is the job of a shinigami to kill people when they are scheduled to die and harvest their souls. Therefore, Grell’s relationship with death is fairly skewed. For Grell, to kill a human would only be to reap them early. It wouldn’t have much significance. He sees human life as dirty and boring anyway, so he has no real respect for it.

His other interests include playing games, acting, theater, music, and the arts. He also enjoys photography. Grell does have an incredibly short attention span. So, his interests and hobbies tend to be passionate, but short lived.
Grell's gender identity is a source of debate among Kuroshitsuji fans. Some people play Grell as a transwoman, and some don't. I personally do not. In the English translation, Grell does refer to himself as a female and uses female pronouns. Yes. However, in the original Japanese Grell speaks a dialect common among effeminate gay men and drag queens, but never spoken by women in Japan. Grell seems to want to be a woman largely out of a desire to get more attention from men. This is a common stereotype in Japan.
Also, Grell flaunts his male body in people’s faces while calling himself “She” and referring to himself as woman in order to provoke disgust and negative reactions from other people. This is not something a trans person would do.
He’s very vain, and shows no outward discontent with his male body. While he adores his long hair, makeup, and the occasional dressing up, Grell really makes no serious effort to pass as female at any point. In fact, demanding people call him a woman and throwing tantrums when he's identified as a man seems to be something he enjoys. He uses it to his advantage to provoke negative attention, and to make people uncomfortable regularly throughout the series. This is most apparent in his interactions with Sebastian. Ironically, his view of "womanhood" and femininity is surprisingly misogynistic. To him, being a woman involves wearing dresses, makeup, looking pretty and receiving sexual attention from handsome men. Nothing more. When Madame Red will no longer do his bidding, he kills her declaring he has no use for her if she's "just another woman." While there are exceptions, he regards most women with a certain amount of catty judgment and jealousy for their ability to attract men.
Conditional: Personality development in previous game:N/A
Character Plans:Grell will be meeting William. Grell loves William in canon, but has no relationship with him. Their relationship developed in the Port, but my Grell will have no knowledge of this, making for an interesting scene where he has what he wanted but doesn't know he's had it. Grell will also be active in the endgame, whatever that entails.

Appearance/PB:Grell is considered by most to be very beautiful. He has handsome features, white skin and a long slim body with long arms and legs. His hair reaches down to the backs of his knees and is bright red. No, not red like human hair is red, the primary color. His eyes are a bright yellow-green and he wears red-rimmed glasses. He does like to wear makeup, and a man’s suit in brown’s and reds with a red woman’s coat that is too small for him. It hangs off his elbows. His beauty is spoiled when he smiles, revealing a row of pointed, shark-like teeth.

Writing Samples

First Person Sample[Grell mutters to himself as he tries to get the communicator to work for his first video post]

Red… Red… Red…

If I have to find myself in a strange new place, is a little RED too much to ask for? Nothing at all here is red.

[He satisfies himself that it is working.]

Listen! Whoever is out there! I’ll have you know that you’ve kidnapped a REAPER! Now, what do you think of that? I know you’re all just DYING to correct your horrible, horrible mistake. So, I would say it’s to your advantage to fix this bloody mess, unless you want to find yourself AN ACTUAL BLOODY MESS!

Whatever you do to me, just know that my handsome William and my beloved Sebas-Chan will do ANYTHING to get me back. Do you hear me? Anything. I will be rescued. And when I am?

[He goes into a sing-song voice.] You’ll be sooo-ooo-ooo-rryyy!

Ah-ahn! Those handsome men, fighting against all odds to rescue their beautiful beloved! It’s too… too wonderful! Coming to snatch me from the arms of my cruel… inhuman… brutal… strong… dominating… masterful captors! Who without mercy even at this very moment are Ahh-ahn!! [Swooning in a fit of ecstasy, he falls onto the ground, out of frame.]

Um…

[His head pops up again, and he peers into the camera.]

Hey! Where are my brutal strong captors? What kind of a kiddy operation are you running here?

I hate this place already.

Third Person Sample“They buried William in the old church yard,
And Barbara there anigh him,
And out of his grave grew a red, red rose,
And out of hers, a briar.”

Grell sang pleasantly to himself. He didn’t remember where he’d heard the song, but it had love, death, and a red rose and a William in it. So, he liked it. He hopped lightly across a hopscotch court that only existed in his mind.

Grell was bored.

And that wasn’t altogether safe.

A tall, handsome man with dark hair and blue eyes walked past. He tucked his nose down, avoiding eye contact with the redhead. This might have deterred a normal person, but not Grell.

“Hey there! You! The HANDSOME one! The entire city looks like DEATH warmed over! Do you think you could help a poor maiden to safety? Once we’re settled by a nice red fire, I could show you how warm I can…”

The man began to walk faster, away from the red reaper.

“You! Come back here! Can’t you see that I’m in DISTRESS? I’m in need of assistance!”

Grell lay chase, and the man broke into a run. Shark-like teeth grind together, and the scream of an active chainsaw rips through the decaying street.

“HOW DARE YOU LEAVE ME HERE, WEAK AND INNOCENT AND HELPLESS! GET BACK HERE! I’M IN NEED OF A MAN TO SAVE ME NOW GET BACK HERE!”
